We don’t know about you, but one of our favorite features of GTA V was the Rockstar Editor. Sure, it was nice to do a few missions online and chill with our friends, but the Rockstar Editor made it easy to put together some amazing clips of all the fun we had. Unfortunately, the Rockstar Editor is no more, at least in the Xbox One and PS4 versions of GTA V. Rockstar have removed it, and they say it won’t be coming back.
The Removal of the Rockstar Editor
Rockstar have claimed that it was essential they removed the Rockstar Editor. They claim that if they didn’t remove it from the game, it would hinder their ability to keep updating the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game, something that they plan to do for the foreseeable future.
While Rockstar didn’t give reasons for the removal beyond this, it is likely that the removal helps to free up some RAM when playing the game. This ensures that Rockstar can keep adding features to the older versions of the game.
Yes, it is a massive shame for those that were using the Rockstar Editor which, by all accounts, was a rather popular feature. However, if people want to keep earning their GTA 5 money in game, the Rockstar Editor had to be removed.
Unfortunately, by the time you read this, it will be impossible to retrieve any clips you had saved to the Rockstar Editor servers. They had to be retrieved by February 20th, 2024.
What Does This Mean for the Future of the Game?
While Rockstar will continue to update the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game for the foreseeable future, it is evident that these versions of the game are starting to show their age. This means that, eventually, Rockstar will have to stop development of them completely. This is frustrating, since they’re already so far behind the next generation versions of the game.
For now, we hope it will just be the Rockstar Editor held back. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if a few other features needed to be removed in the future, although what could possibly be removed is anybody’s guess. We do suggest that you try and move onto the newest version of the game as soon as possible, though.
